Don’t Wait on Your Forever Home

Texas interior designer Saguaro West

One thing about me, I’m always researching or learning in some form or fashion—especially when it comes to interior design. At least that’s what I claim when I’m scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram. I love to study different eras of design, aesthetics and dissect spaces to understand why another designer did what they did in a room.

You can learn so much from someone who has more experience than you, different expertise, or even a fresh perspective. I recently worked through a quick study course and came across a point that struck a chord with me.

“Don’t wait on your forever home.”

Listen up and listen deep to what I just wrote. How often do we put off a purchase because we’re not in our forever home?

There are two critical takeaways from this statement.

First. What if the forever home never comes? Or, what if you’re in your forever home now, and you just don’t realize yet? It’s not always what we want to hear, but that could be our reality. We’re pushing off purchasing that thought-provoking piece of art, the carved side table, or a few pieces of favorite china because we’re striving to reach something else first.

Second. Let’s flash forward to finally getting into your forever home. It’s probably a significant investment to purchase or build your dream home, am I right? But what’s often forgotten about in the budgeting process is furnishing it. So you find yourself in this beautiful new home and not enough stuff and sadly not enough budget to fill it.

If you start collecting good-quality heirloom pieces now, your pocketbook won’t take such a hit when you’re faced with filling a new home with furniture and accessories. And, the quality of those pieces will match the quality of your forever home—instead of scouring the discount isles for pieces that will honestly look discount next to your shiny new home.

Heirloom Piece—something of special value handed down from one generation to another.

Often when it comes down to furnishing a new home, we end up purchasing out of necessity, and we end up with a lot of things we’re not really in love with. If you come across something that you really love in a shop or online, and it fits in the budget now, purchase it. You’ll thank yourself later on.
